On February 2, 1995, Seinfeld released its lowest-rated episode of all-time.
It was called “The Highlights of a Hundred”.
“The Highlights of a Hundred” was a one-hour look back at famous clips from the show’s first 100 episodes. No new material. Just lazy re-runs of art that people had already seen.
Fans hated it.
On IMDB, “The Highlights of a Hundred” is rated a 6.9 — the only Seinfeld episode to fall below a 7.0.
Then, Friends did it, too (shocker).
So did The Simpsons.
And Scrubs, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Malcom in the Middle, and a whole bunch more.
Every time, fans made it clear: They didn’t like clip shows. Only an idiot would replicate the concept.
And the idiots replicating the concept said the same thing:
“We don’t care. We’re tired of making new content. We just want a week off.”
